Former St. Mary's star makes college debut after nearly 4 years of injuries

BERKELEY - It took more than three years for former St. Mary's High School star Jacki Gemelos to make her college debut for the University of Southern California women's basketball team. It took less than 30 seconds for coach Michael Cooper to put her in the game.
Cooper was forced to make an injury substitution when forward Aarika Hughes went down with an apparent ankle injury on the Trojans' first possession against University of California, Berkeley, on Thursday at Haas Pavilion. Cooper called on Gemelos, prompting some long-awaited words from Cal's public address announcer.
"Now entering the game, 23, Jacki Gemelos."
Gemelos received a rousing ovation from dozens of friends and family members when she checked in with 19:34 remaining in the first half, and, just like that, she was back, cutting, curling, shooting, scoring, making plays like she used to.
